On July 25, 2016 Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services will be awarding the first ever DEFENDER Award to Oday Salim and would like to invite you to come celebrate at Wigle Whiskey Distillery in Pittsburgh's Strip District. The name of the event is A Soiree for Oday. In addition to excellent craft spirits distilled at the venue, a food truck from Franktuary will be on site to provide their signature items. Fair Shake will present Oday with the DEFENDER Award and you can come show your support and celebrate one of the Appalachian Basin's staunchest environmental advocates!

Throughout his legal career, Oday has been a tireless advocate for the advancement of environmental justice. Oday came to Western Pennsylvania in order to practice environmental law for organizations and individuals in need of representation. After four years practicing and teaching in a law school clinic, Oday dedicated himself to Fair Shake’s start-up and directed its Pennsylvania docket. His work has been nothing less than outstanding. Fair Shake was able to take on the ambitious goal of tackling the disparate impacts of current day environmental decision-making in large part due to Oday’s unwavering commitment to ensuring equal access to environmental justice and empowering affected communities. Oday has distinguished himself as a defender of your environment.

This event announcement is bittersweet as Oday recently announced he is leaving Pittsburgh in order to move home to Michigan. Our community will miss the presence of such a force. So please come and send Oday off with both style and substance! Wigle Whiskey will donate a portion of the sales proceeds to Fair Shake. We'll also have a silent auction & raffle.
