A man-made disaster is an event or emergency situation in or near an industrial facility or human-built infrastructure, and often caused by systems-level failures or negligence. These events hurt physical and mental health, the local environment, and the economy of the workers, neighbors, and community nearby.

In our region, this includes things like: explosions or fires at industrial plants; spills and contamination in waterways; train derailments; bridge collapses; and widespread power outages.
